Power Pose

Power posing is a concept that suggests that assuming certain postures can affect one’s hormones and behavior. The idea behind power posing is that by assuming a confident and expansive posture, one can increase their levels of testosterone (associated with dominance and power) and decrease their levels of cortisol (associated with stress and anxiety).

The idea of power posing was first introduced by social psychologist Amy Cuddy in her 2012 TED talk, in which she presented research showing that participants who assumed expansive, “high-power” poses for just two minutes before a stressful situation had increased levels of testosterone and decreased levels of cortisol, compared to those who assumed “low-power” poses.

The idea behind power posing is that by assuming a confident and expansive posture, one can trick the brain into feeling more confident and powerful, which can in turn affect behavior. The concept has been applied in various fields such as business, sports, education, and personal development.

It’s important to note that while power posing has shown some positive effects on self-confidence and performance, it is not a magic bullet and other factors such as preparation, training, and self-reflection are also important to achieve a positive outcome.
