Dr. Atul Gawande
Dr. Atul Gawande is a surgeon, public health researcher, and author. He is a staff member at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, a professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School, and a senior advisor to Ariadne Labs, a health systems innovation center. He is also a contributing writer for The New Yorker magazine.
Dr. Gawande is known for his research on the quality and cost of healthcare, and has written several books on the topic, including “Complications: A Surgeon’s Notes on an Imperfect Science,” “Better: A Surgeon’s Notes on Performance,” and “The Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right.” He has been a vocal advocate for improving the quality and safety of healthcare and has emphasized the importance of teamwork and communication in achieving this goal.
In recent years, Dr. Gawande has also been involved in efforts to improve the delivery of healthcare in low- and middle-income countries, through the creation of a global surgical care and anesthesia workforce. He is also the founder and CEO of a healthcare startup, Haven, which aims to lower healthcare costs and improve the quality of care for Americans, by partnering with top employers.
